The Twelve Laws of Karma

Today I would like to share with you this thought provoking video and some of the comments it fostered. If you don't have time to watch the video, the Twelve Laws of Karma are printed below.

The Twelve Laws of Karma

As you sow, so shall you reap.
This is also known as the Law of Cause and Effect.
Whatever we put out in the Universe
is what comes back to us.
If what we want is Happiness, Peace, Friendship, Love...
Then we should BE Happy, Peaceful, Loving, a Friend.

Life doesn't just HAPPEN, it requires our participation.
We are one with the Universe both inside and out.
Whatever surrounds us gives us clues to our inner state.
BE and DO yourself...
what you want to have in your Life.

What you refuse to accept, will continue for you.
If what we see is an enemy, or someone with a character trait that we find to be negative,
then we ourselves are not focused on a higher level of existence.

Wherever you go, there you are.
For us to GROW in Spirit it is we who must change and not the people, places or things around us.
The only given we have in our lives is OURSELVES
and that is the only factor we have control over.
When we change who and what we are within our heart
our life changes too.

Whenever there is something wrong,
there is something wrong in me.
We mirror of what surrounds us
and what surrounds us mirrors us
We must take responsibility for what is in our life.

Even if something we do seems inconsequential,
it is very important that it gets done
as everything in the Universe is connected.
Each step leads to the next step and so forth and so on.
Someone must do the initial work to get a job done.
Neither the first step nor the last
are of greater significance
They were both needed to accomplish the task.
Past, Present, Future
They are all connected...

You can't think of two things at the same time.
When our focus is on Spiritual Values it is impossible for us to have lower thoughts such as greed or anger.

If you believe something to be true,
then sometime in your life
you will be called upon to demonstrate that truth.
Here is where we put what we SAY
that we have learned

Looking back to examine what was,
prevents us from being totally in the HERE AND NOW.
Old thoughts, old patterns of behavior, old dreams...
Prevent us from having new ones.

History repeats itself until
we learn the lessons that we need
to change our path.

All Rewards require initial toil.
Rewards of lasting value
require patient and persistent toil.
True Joy follows doing what we're suppose to be doing and waiting for the Reward to come in it's on time.

You get back from something whatever
you've put into it
The Value of something is a direct result of
the energy and intent that is put into it.
Every personal contribution
is also a contribution to the Whole
Lack luster Contributions have no impact on the Whole
or work to diminish it.
Loving Contributions Lift Up and Inspire the Whole

Comments from viewers of the video

" Don't know if this is correct or not, but it sounds like your saying that it's better to deeply humiliate your enemy than to simply kill them. Which I believe is better as it helps us all and the wrongdoer (as you said yourself) will take on the burden or their wrongdoings, rather than getting out of life free with a bullet through the skull. What I mean is that say for example in Africa, with all their troubles (Somalia etc), when a tribal chief has ordered the massacre of 10 villages, to solve the problem you do not kill him, as this creates more problems, you make him atone for his sins and face up to the fact that he was wrong and that he should have done the right thing. This is why i think it's better because although it's easier to cop out and die/kill yourself in this situation, staying with it and sorting the mess out is much better and it makes you a better person."

"It's not about being humiliated, it's about making criminals see the effects of their behaviour."

" Hell is a vile, abusive, disgusting concept. God buys love; loyalty with torture? A Gandhi, Teresa, Mandela would never think of torturing their enemies, whereas a Saddam, Hitler, Stalin would. This is the company that God keeps? Karma; Rebirth is the better, non-violent way. You are not punished, nor are you simply forgiven because you groveled enough. The most important aspect of Karma is that you are held accountable for your actions, you are reborn, given another chance to make amends."

" I get frustrated when I hear people say when bad things happen; they go well that's Karma. That's not it at all! Two wrongs don't make a right. The Hindu God is a Teacher, our goal is Moksha - Enlightenment or Knowledge - no Teacher wants to simply punish, She is there to educate. A Teacher is not going to punish u if u don't attend class nor study. lack of knowledge is its own punishment."

That is why Moksha, Enlightenment, Knowledge is the higher goal. The whole concept of god running a heaven/ hell seems a bit silly - it appeals to the small mind. They are right here, not up there; we make them happen, not God. God is but a Teacher not a King, giving us guidance, encouragement. Fear of God, mercy, soldier/slave, justice, commands, wrath, begging - all words associated with a King not a Teacher.  I tell Hindus not to Kneel to God when they go to the Temple. Do not beseech God to make things better - instead ask Her for guidance; moral strength - then we must go out; fight our own battles. We make this world a heaven or hell, not God - that is the teaching of Karma and Rebirth."

"That's pretty much what we're taught in church too.. tho I suppose it's about how much the priest is in touch with God... we're taught not to ask for what we want, but for what we need... in a word, for guidance and whatnot. really now... even if u pray to God to give u something, u still have to work to get it... it's just that He makes it a bit easier to you. ^^ God does not influence the world so much... it's the people that do. that's also why there's the rule of free will there. ;)"

" Karma; rebirth gives me the Gift of Life, over and over again:
1. Falling in Love
2. Smell of freshly cut flowers
3. Grandma's cooking
4. Holding your new born baby
5. Opening day
6. Spring, Summer, Fall
7. Smell of the earth after a rainfall
8. Laughter
And many, many more joys of Life to be experienced over and over again! I sometimes feel sorry for some people, they get just one life, they are but one-and-done."

"Just DO. Extend your hand. Hold the door. Let someone know you caught them being silly. Spark someone in a positive way. SMILE. Say hello. Ask if you can help and mean it. Offer yourself. Why wouldn't you. DO. Not for anticipation of payback; just because it feels so good to impact others in a positive manner. DO."

"2 months ago I was with my friends on a cliffs edge other day, very windy, really remote place, with no barriers or railings to stop people falling off to their death. Well we were walking along, and I was extremely tired having no sleep, and we came to a gravestone. For the lols I spat on it, and they were all like "ooh karma will get you". well despite the perfect opportunity, wind and exhaustion and extremely dangerous cliff edge, I didn't fall in. I was nearly hoping I would, just to prove karma was real."

" To Warlord1500 -  The worst that could happen is that someone will spit on your less."

"I believe in these laws fully, it seems that when the elite class have total control of the world, it will backfire on them. Greed consumes their souls."

"Most important........Never remind a person of their past "sins".It negates the miracle and keeps them in bondage."

"How people treat you is their Karma, how you react is yours. Firmly believe you reap what you sow."

" Cause and effect, very true. Things like self doubt, living in the past, self hatred (public and private) and focusing on negative, angry, self destructive feelings, all very true.
AND this has nothing to do with religion or even spirituality, AA and NA teach this so it is anyone can embrace. It is the difference between being happy and being unhappy and not knowing why....
Which leads to self destructive, self satisfying / gratifying, short term behavior starting the whole cycle over again..."
