Words Of Wisdom

Love.... is the answer! The answer to what you ask? Love is the answer to everything! If you are faced with a problem or quandary, ask yourself what the outcome would look like if love was applied to the equation.

I received this insight when I was asking my guides what the core idea of this blog was to be about. There are many ways to apply healing energy in our lives which I will be going into in this blog, but if you stopped reading right now, all you really need to know is .....Love is the answer!

Love yourself, love your body, love your neighbor, love the planet, love the creator. If you incorporate love into everything, you can't help but have a healthier relationship with yourself, your body, your fellow man and your planet. If you come from a place of love, you will create peace, beauty and good health for all.

Imagine my surprise when I went looking for quotes on health and healing to find out that many people had been given this same piece of wisdom, it must be true if all these illustrious authors believe it is so as well.

Love one another and help others to rise to higher levels, simply by pouring out love. Love is infectious and the greatest healing energy.
Sathya Sai Baba

Eventually you will come to understand that love heals everything, and love is all there is.
Gary Zukav

Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our lives.
Louise Hay

Pay attention to your body. Listen to it. Ask what it needs. Love it. Healing starts when we send love to our dis-eased parts. In the words of Carl Townsend, “All healing is first a healing of the heart.” Love the unlovable and you will find love can work miracles. Show yourself compassion and accept the gift of healing.

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.
Buddha

Moderation. Small helpings. Sample a little bit of everything. These are the secrets of happiness and good health.
Julia Child

The positive effect of kindness on the immune system and on the increased production of serotonin in the brain has been proven in research studies. Serotonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that makes us feel more comfortable, peaceful, and even blissful. In fact, the role of most anti-depressants is to stimulate the production of serotonin chemically, helping to ease depression. Research has shown that a simple act of kindness directed toward another improves the functioning of the immune system and stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of the kindness and the person extending the kindness. Even more amazing is that persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results. Imagine this! Kindness extended, received, or observed beneficially impacts the physical health and feelings of everyone involved!
Wayne Dyer

It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
Mahatma Gandhi

I accept perfect health as the natural state of my being. I now consciously release any mental patterns within me that could express as dis-ease in any way. Perfect health is my Divine right, and I claim it now.
Louise Hay

I love and approve of myself. I love and approve of my body. I feed it nourishing foods and beverages. I exercise it in ways that are fun.
Louise Hay

Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn’t, it is of no use.
Carlos Castaneda

If instead of a gem, or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as the angels give. George MacDonald

Peace in the world starts with peace in your heart.
Marta Davidovich Ockuly

There are many paths to enlightenment. Be sure to take the one with a heart. Lao Tzu

To love a person is to learn the song that is in their heart, and to sing it to them when they have forgotten.

Arne Garborg
May our heart's garden of awakening bloom with hundreds of flowers.
Thich Nhat Hanh

I have witnessed the softening of the hardest of hearts by a simple smile.
Goldie Hawn

The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there? Jack Kornfield

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7

Here is a wonderful creed to follow:
I promise myself…to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind; to talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet; to make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them; to look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true; to think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best; to be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own; to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future; to wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature I meet; to give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others; to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble; to think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds; to live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me. Christian D. Larson....and finally, in the immortal words of John Lennon.....    Love is all you need!!
I  Love you, xoxox, Rhianna

A Didgeridoo Healing Story

The other day I touched on the didgeridoo in a post about the healing properties of Eucalyptus. I would like to share the story of how I was healed of agonizing pain through the didgeridoo.

For those that don't know, the didgeridoo is a musical instrument used by the Australian Aborigines. It is a long hollow tube constructed from branches of the local eucalyptus tree that have been hollowed out by termites. The branch is cut to a suitable length and the ends smoothed over. Beeswax is applied to the mouthpiece end, thick enough to help form a seal with the mouth.

The instrument is played by pressing the lips together and buzzing with them ( like making a raspberry sound) while making sounds with the throat. A thin stream of air is continuously blown into the pipe by a special method of breathing , called circular breathing. Air is brought in through the nose in short quick bursts, while the cheeks puff with residual air to keep the sound going( kind of like a bagpipe).

The Aborigines used these instruments to make all the sounds of the animals and insects that live within their environment. They can tell stories of what the animals are doing just by replicating their sounds. The didgeridoo is considered a sacred instrument by the Aborigines and is used during ceremonies and rituals.

There is some controversy about whether it is ok for women to play this instrument. Some say is it not allowed and may even have dire consequences such as infertility while others say it is ok but only in informal situations. I'm not sure myself, but I was already infertile before I tried playing one and that didn't change.

( As an aside, scientists believe playing the didgeridoo can help snoring and sleep apnea. This appears to work by strengthening muscles in the upper airway, thus reducing their tendency to collapse during sleep.)

If you would like to try and play the didgeridoo yourself, here is a link to a series of videos explaining the technique.

Twenty years ago, I was a passenger in a car accident. We were hit by another car doing about 80 kms an hour, as he T-boned us on the highway. I suffered agonizing back pain for seven years after that. I had a myriad of aches and pains but the worst one by far was a sensation of being stabbed in the back, right between my shoulders with a big knife which was then being twisted inside. This pain was one  hundred percent relentless. It never stopped or lessened for a second. There was NO comfortable position, they all hurt after ten minutes or so. Sitting, standing, lying down, it didn't matter. No drugs could touch it, they made me lethargic and dopey but the pain was still there. I went five days a week for seven years to some kind of therapy. I alternated between;. massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractor, acupuncture, psychotherapy, and exercise. They all treated the other symptoms that came about because of the pain( muscle spasm and vertebrae being pulled in different direction, mental anguish, poor posture) but they never touched the pain itself.

I had all but given up on ever being pain free again. I had contemplated suicide, but not knowing for sure how the afterlife might manifest, I was terrified that the pain would follow me through eternity. I could not bear that, so I continued to search and study, looking for answers. Massage Therapy spoke to me and I attended the West Coast College of Massage Therapy.  Shortly after I graduated from Massage Therapy School, I went on a ten day survival course in the Slocan Valley of BC.

The one position that bothered me the most was sitting for any period of time. The trip to get to the course took me two days to get there. I had to stop every three-quarters of an hour or so and get out and walk around and stretch for awhile, before I could continue on. I ended up stopping half way there and spending the night in Kelowna.

On the last day of the course, as we were starting to pack up and say our goodbyes, a fellow came around and asked if anyone wanted to be part of a didgeridoo healing circle. I thought, I will try anything once, so went off to join him. A group of about 20 or so people gathered and lay on the ground, face up, holding hands. Three young men with didgeridoos then commenced walking slowly around the circle and played their instruments over and around our bodies. You could feel the vibrations on your  skin as one passed over you. This went on for quite a long time. The grass below me tickled the back of my neck, various insects came and inspected me, my arms ached, then burned, then went numb from being held out to the side for so long. As much as I wanted to disengage my hand from the person whose hand I was holding, it seemed very important that I did not break the connection of our combined energy field as this was happening. I grit my teeth and bore the pain and torturous feelings.

Finally after what seemed like hours it was over. We slowly got up, shared hugs and goodbyes and went off to finish packing up. The next morning, I got up early, packed up the tent and set off for the journey home. I expected to have the same experience going as I had coming but as the trip wore on, I realized my back wasn't bothering me and I could keep going. Well I made it home in one thirteen hour burst, stopping only to eat. I couldn't believe it! For seven years I been been unable to sit through a movie, I stood in corners or laid on the floor during classes, now suddenly, I could sit all day! I was ecstatic to say the least. I had despaired of this pain ever leaving my body, now it was magically gone.

It did finally come back after about a week, but I didn't hardly care. Now I had hope. If it could go away once, it could go away again. That was all I needed to know. I had good days and bad ones, but the good ones became more frequent and lasted longer until one day the bad pain just never came back.

I will never been completely the same. I have stretched ligaments in my spine that cause too much movement of the vertebrae and ribs. I have postural problems from years of compensating for the pain, but the intense pain between the shoulders is gone and that was the worst one by far.

It's too bad that the healing took place on the last day of the course. I was pretty much home by the time I realized the implications of what had happened. I am not sure how or why I was healed nor what they musicians did specifically to orchestrate it. I have given it much thought over the years and have a few theories about it.

One of my theories, is that all things are made from atomic molecules. Atoms are simply particles rapidly bouncing around in their orbit. The number of particular particles and the speed at which they bounce, determines what a bunch of those atoms will look like, skin, wood, water etc. An opera singer can crack a crystal glass with her voice because she can make her voice vibrate at the same resonance as crystal atoms, thus forming a shock wave that collides with the crystal and shatters it. Maybe the vibrations of the sound waves from the didgeridoo had some kind of effect of my own cellular structure in some way that allowed it to heal.

Another theory is based on Masaru Emoto's studies on the effect of sound, colour, and prayers on the crystalline structure of water. I have written a whole post on this amazing concept, please go here to read more. The fact that the human body is made up of over seventy percent water makes it logical to think that something that can affect all that fluid may have a beneficial effect on the human body.

There are many courses and studies about using sound as a healing tool. Everything from chanting and toning, to music therapy. I was shown a technique using a round native hand drum to play over a person body as a healing device. Vibration can definitely affect us, just look at all the people complaining about the effect of the vibrations caused by large windmill power plants on their health and well-being

I may never know for sure what happened that day, but the one thing I did learn, is to never give up. Even if you can't seem to find a cure or relief from whatever ails you, do not give up. Some challenges are given to us to learn from. Some change us completely in positive ways. ( I would not want to repeat my painful experience but in retrospect is was the best thing that ever happened to me, and changed my life in all ways positive) Some challenges are possible to overcome , once you sort out the root source of the pain, and work to unblock whatever is holding you back from healing. Search with an open mind to what may be possible and believe in miracles, they can happen!

with loving thoughts towards your healing,

Herb of the Week - Comfrey

Comfrey - also commonly known as Boneset, Bruise Wort, Knitbone

Comfrey is another wonderful plant to have in your herbal pharmacy. It has remarkable powers of cell rejuvenation to speed healing of wounds and broken bones.

Cultivation

A perennial growing from 60cm to 1.2m in height. Although it prefers a damp soil, it can flourish under almost any condition, provided there is no drought. Once established it is hard to get rid of. It’s a great soil conditioner and stops running grasses in their tracks. Propagate by root division.

When the flowers appear take a cut. Use a pair of shears and cut about 6 inches from the ground. Comfrey has little hairs on the leaves, which can irritate. Not quite a cactus but near, so wear gloves. It grows back very quickly. Dry the leaves and stalks – store in air tight containers until ready to use.

Comfrey should be harvested at least 3 times a year. Just cut it down to a little above the ground and collect the stalks and leaves.

If you harvest the root be aware that even the smallest sliver of root left in the ground will grow into a full plant in no time. It can take over, so watch where you plant it as you’ll NEVER get rid of it again.

Location and Preparation of your Comfrey Bed

Comfrey is a pretty tough plant that will grow from small pieces of root so do choose your location with care. It is easier to kill most weeds than comfrey. If you do need to move a comfrey bed the old bed will need to be killed off. Your best bet will be to use a weedkiller like ammonium sulphamate .

Comfrey will thrive in full sun or in partial to near full shade - there is usually a disused corner that will make a great site for your comfrey bed. It doesn't like thin, chalky soils and the roots go down a fair way so dig deeply and break up the subsoil to get it off to a good start. Light sandy soils will benefit from organic matter. Being a fleshy plant it will need a lot of water and a soggy patch will be a plus.

Turn the soil over and remove any perennial weed roots. Comfrey grows very densely and will be difficult to weed. It does tend to shade out most weeds once established. If you have any manure - even poultry manure - fork this into the top 6 inches of the soil. Comfrey is great for soaking up nutrients and, unlike most plants, will not burn with raw manure.

If you can, plant in March, April, May or September for best results. Start the plants off in pots - just to get them off to a good start - and then plant out.

Block plant around 2 to 3 feet apart and stand back. You will be surprised how quickly they grow.

Come winter, the plants go dormant and a good layer of manure can be applied.

Comfrey is best used the second year of its growth and after.

Medicinal Uses
Externally it decreases the healing time for skin wounds and irritations and has been shown to act as a mild analgesic.

Comfrey root and leaves are used externally in ointments, poultices, compresses, washes and salves.  Avoid deep or infected wounds with this herb, as comfrey speeds healing and can trap dirt, pus and bacteria within the underlying tissue.

Comfrey mends skin and helps bone tissue heal. It speeds the healing of wounds, cuts, lesions, bone breaks, ulcers, acne, and boils. Comfrey contains allantion, a protein which speeds up cell renewal.

 How to Make Comfrey Oil
To make comfrey oil, harvest fresh comfrey which is in flower. Chop coarsely and lightly stuff  in a jar until full.

Cover with extra virgin olive oil ( organic if possible). Using a chopstick, poke the comfrey/oil mixture to get rid of any air bubbles and to push all the comfey down so it is completely covered by the oil. It is important that none of the herb is exposed to the air as it can rot and grow mold.

Cover the jar top with a piece of paper towel and use a sealing ring or an elastic band to hold the paper towel on. Every day for a week or so, uncover the jar and stir and poke down the comfrey.

Leave to soak in the oil for another five weeks, keeping it out of direct sunlight.

After the six weeks of soaking , strain the comfrey through cheesecloth to decant the oil and store in a sealed jar. If the smell of the olive oil is too strong for you, you can store the oil with paper towel as a lid until the smell dissipates, then cover it with a lid.

How to Make Comfrey Salve
It is very easy to make your own salves. Start with 8 ounces of an herbal oil and place in a non-metal pan. Add about 1/4 cup of beeswax. Heat over a very low heat until the beeswax is melted. ( do not boil!! Use a very low heat) To check the firmness of your salve, place a few drops on a plate and place in the freezer. After a minute or two, check the consistency. If it is too soft, add more beeswax; if too hard, add more oil. When you have achieved the desired consistency, pour into clean, glass jars and cool completely. Stored in a cool, dark place, your salves should keep for a couple of years but is best replaced the following year with a fresh batch from your new crop.

Use as an ointment for burns, wounds, sore muscles, and broken bones.

How to make a Comfrey Poultice

Harvest fresh comfrey and chop coarsely. Fill a blender 3/4's full and cover the plant material with water. Blend until it's completely mushy. Put the mixture into a bowl and add flour a handful at a time until the mixture has thickened enough to stay in place when put on the material.

Using an old sheet or cloth, put about one cup of the mixture into the middle of a piece of sheet. Fold over the sides, then fold over the ends to completely contain the poultice. Pat down until the poultice starts to seep through the material, then place on the body part needing attention.

You can make more poultices with the leftovers and place them in a sealed baggy with wax paper between each one and place them in the freezer for future use. You can use them cold for burns etc or add a bit of water to one on a plate and reheat in the microwave to use for a broken bone or aching muscles.

Comfrey tincture:

You should plan to start your tinctures on the day of the new moon and let them sit at least 2 weeks until the full moon - this adds a natural drawing power.

THE ITEMS YOU WILL NEED:

Dried or fresh herbs in powdered or finely chopped form.

80 -100 proof vodka or rum (NEVER use rubbing, isopropyl or wood alcohol).

Wide-mouthed glass jars with lids (mason jar or equivalent).

Unbleached cheesecloth or muslin.

Labels and markers.

STEP BY STEP

Pour the amount of herb you desire into the glass jar and slowly pour the alcohol until the herbs are entirely covered. Then add an inch or two of additional liquid.

Seal the jar tightly so that the liquid cannot leak or evaporate. Put the jar in a dark area or inside a paper bag.
Shake the jar every day for 2 weeks.

When ready to bottle, pour the tincture through a cheesecloth into another jar or dark colored tincture bottle. Squeeze the saturated herbs, extracting the remaining liquid until no more drips appear.

Close the storage container with a stopper or cap and label.

Rub into sore aching muscles and joints for relief of arthritis.

ADDITIONAL TIPS ON TINCTURES

200 grams dried or 300 grams of fresh herbs (chopped) to one liter of liquid is needed.

Tinctures can last up to two years when stored in a tightly closed container.

A wine press or juicer may be used to extract liquid from the herbs.

Herb of the Week- Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is Mothers Natures medicine cabinet wrapped up in a plant.

Aloe acts as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and makes an excellent energy tonic

There are over 250 species of Aloes in the world, mostly native to Africa. They range in size from little one inch miniatures to massive plant colonies consisting of hundreds of 2 foot diameter plants.
Although most Aloes have some medicinal or commercial value, the most commonly known is the Aloe barbadensis... better known as Aloe vera.

All Aloes are semi tropical succulent plants, and may only be grown outdoors in areas where there is no chance of freezing (USDA zones 10-11). However, they make excellent house plants when they are given sufficient light. Container grown Aloe plants benefit from spending their summer outdoors.

GROW YOUR OWN ALOE VERA PLANT
Using pure aloe vera gel from its plant form is best, as its cellular activity tends to be reduced when mixed with other chemicals.
Growing your own aloe vera plant can be fairly easy as its only requirements are lots of warm sun and little water. It does not like cold temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit or cold, drafty areas. It takes the aloe vera plant about 4 years to reach full maturity of about two feet tall, which is when the gel from an aloe vera leaf holds its greatest benefits. Be sure to transplant it to larger pots as it outgrows it's current one.

Older specimens may even bloom, producing a tall stock covered with bright colored coral flowers.

The nectar from Aloe flowers is a favorite food for hummingbirds!

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) Benefits

Aloe vera is one of the only known natural vegetarian sources of Vitamin B12, and it contains many minerals vital to the growth process and healthy function of all the body's systems.

Some of the minerals found in Aloe Vera include calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, chromium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc. This is because the plant tends to grow in areas where soils are rich in these minerals and its roots are able to absorb them and deliver them to us in a very available form.

Numerous studies worldwide indicate that aloe vera is a general tonic for the immune system, helping it to fight illness of all kinds. Various research studies are underway to explore the potential of aloe vera components to boost immunity and combat the HIV virus, and to treat certain types of cancer (particularly leukemia). It may even have a role to play in managing diabetes by improving blood glucose levels.

The juice is said to soothe digestive tract irritations such as colitis, ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome. Aloe's ability to encourage the release of pepsin (a gastric juice enzyme necessary for digestion) when the stomach is full is a possible reason for its ulcer-healing effects (Journal of the American Osteopathic Society, 1963, vol.62).

In one study, oral use of Aloe for six months helped mitigate asthma symptoms in almost half of the participants. Eleven of twenty-seven patients studied who drank Aloe reported feeling better at the end of the study. Researchers think that results might be due to stimulation of the immune system, as well as naturally occurring anti-inflammatory agents in Aloe vera.

In 1994, the US Food and Drug Administration approved Aloe vera for the treatment of HIV. On-going studies worldwide show that Aloe taken in highly concentrated doses can stimulate the production of white blood cells that may help fight viruses and also tumours.

Aloe vera contains protein, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamins A, B12 and E, essential fatty acids and is naturally rich in:

Vitamin C which helps maintain tone of blood vessels and promotes good circulation and is essential to the health of the adrenal gland which supports our body in times of stress.

Amino acids which are chains of atoms constructing protein in our body.

Enzymes, which are the life-principle in every live, organic atom and molecule of natural raw food, rejuvenate aged tissues and promote healthy skin.

Germanium which is a mineral that some health authorities claim therapeutic benefits for: immunodeficiency, pain, cardiac disorders, circulatory disturbances and eye problems.

Aloe vera juice is said to be one of the finest body cleansers, cleaning morbid matter from the stomach, liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, and is considered the finest, known colon cleanser. Studies have shown that it is healing and soothing in the relief of indigestion, stomach distress and ulcers. People claim relief from arthritis, bladder and kidney infections; leg cramps, constipation, hemorrhoids, insomnia, and for vaginitis, it is said to be an excellent vaginal douche.

It is also used to ease heartburn, ulcers, diverticular disorders, and other types of digestive upset. It is used as an anti-inflammatory and may be taken internally as a remedy for certain digestive complaints as certain compounds in Aloe vera reduce the secretion of stomach juices and the formation of lesions.

Animal studies and anecdotal reports claim that drinking Aloe vera juice or taking it as a tablet or capsule can reduce swelling and inflammation in arthritic joints.

In 1997, University of San Antonio researcher Jeremiah Herlihy, Ph.D., conducted a study to observe any negative effects of drinking Aloe daily. Rather than exhibiting negative effects, however, test animals receiving daily Aloe showed a remarkable reduction in leukemia, heart disease, and kidney disease. Dr. Herlihy concluded, "We found no indication of harm done to the rats even at high levels." In fact, the Aloe-drinking animals actually lived 25 percent longer than those in the control group (IASC Conference, Texas, 1997).

There is no single ingredient that makes Aloe vera potent and healthful. Researcher Robert Davis, Ph.D., an endocrinologist-biologist, explains that fifteen different compound groups of nutrients work together to make the plant effective. This means that Aloe vera's effects cannot be synthesized easily in a laboratory. On the upside, this makes the plant useful across a wide spectrum of circumstances. And because the various elements that make Aloe effective are nutrients rather than drugs, Aloe juice may complement medical treatments. In fact some cancer patients state that Aloe vera seems to reduce nausea, increase energy, and may help to minimize low blood counts caused by chemotherapy or radiation.

Aloe vera may help adults, children, and even pets receive more value from daily foods and supplements.

USE ALOE VERA FOR THE SKIN
Apply the gel from an aloe vera leaf directly onto skin abrasions, cuts, sunburns, scalds, blisters, cold sores, rashes, and insect bites to help fight bacteria and avoid infection. The gel also has the ability to soothe pain and regenerate skin cells to promote healing with no or little scaring. Apply aloe gel 2-3 times a day to the area/wound until it is healed.

Use aloe vera gel for general skin care. Use the gel alone or along with your favorite skin cream to help better soften and moisturize the skin. Because aloe regenerates skin cells it is also known to reduce wrinkles, eczema, acne, sun/age spots, and other blemishes. It is also gentle enough to use to care for the tender skin after radiation therapy.

The gel taken from the aloe vera plant can also be combined with wheat-germ oil and safflower flower to reduce bruising.

TRY ALOE ON THE SCALP AND HAIR
Applying aloe vera gel to the scalp is a good treatment for dandruff, seborrhea (dermatitis), psoriasis and hair loss that has resulted from these conditions.

Use the gel from an aloe vera plant to substitute your commercial hair gel; rub or comb small amounts through your hair and style as usual.

USE ALOE VERA FOR PERIODONTAL CARE
Apply aloe vera gel directly to damaged or diseased gums to reduce inflammation, pain, and to promote healing. Include aloe gel in dental hygiene regimens to help fight tooth decay and reduce plaque.

TRY ALOE FOR EYE CARE
To create an eyewash, dissolve ½ tsp of powdered aloe gel in one cup of water. To accelerate the healing process add one teaspoon of boric acid. Pour the solution through a coffee filter before applying to the eyes.

TRY ALOE FOR STRAINS AND MUSCLE PAINS
Because the gel of the aloe vera plant is known to absorb quickly into the skin and reduce inflammation and pain, it also works well on sprains, strains, muscle pains and arthritic pain. Apply aloe gel along with a cold compress to the sore area 2-3 times per day.

USE ALOE FOR INTERNAL BENEFITS
Aloe gel is believed to provide relief from stomach disorders, kidney ailments, and headaches, just to name a few of aloe's internal healing benefits.

Using the yellow juice, called latex found just beneath the surface of the leaves can serve as a powerful laxative.

The gel from aloe vera also contains magnesium lactate that serves as an antihistamine, which may help to relieve sinus and chest inflammations caused by allergies.

Because aloe can have a strong laxative affect do not ingest the yellow latex found in the skin of the leaf or be cautious of the amount taken as a laxative. It is best to ingest aloe by gently blending the gel, taken from between the leafs, in a blender with juice or water.

Notes:

If you are using oral corticosteroids, such as beclomethasone, methylprednisolone, or prednisone, it is important not to overuse or misuse Aloe vera juice. A potassium deficiency can develop, and you may experience toxic effects from the medication.

Although it is removed, in practice Aloe vera juice may sometimes still contain tiny quantities of the laxative compound found in aloe latex. Should you begin to have cramps or diarrhea do not ingest any more of the juice.

Allergies to aloe vera are very rare. Yet any food can be a potential allergen. Test a small amount on the inner arm to see if any reaction takes place. If no irritation on the skin is observed then it is generally tolerated. If ingestion causes diarrhea, then reduce the amount you ingest, increasing use slowly over several days until the desired amount is tolerated.
